This vintage, original poster was created in 1987 in conjunction with Andy Warhol’s print portfolio related to Hans Christian Andersen and comes directly from the artist’s estate. The Danish author Hans Christian Andersen is known internationally for his fairytales, which have been translated into over 125 languages. While known for his stories, Andersen also created hundreds of paper cut-outs throughout his life. This poster features Warhol’s interpretation of one such cut-out, that of the tale of “Ole Lukøje (The Sandman),” a mythical creature who brings dreams to children. This bold silhouette likely appealed to Warhol’s interest in graphic forms. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a rare and out-of-print poster directly from Warhol’s own personal collection.
