David Shrigley’s “Everything is Good” (2023) features a series of pink and red “thumbs-up” gestures accompanied by the phrase in turquoise text. Their repetitive nature reflects an almost obsessive affirmation that suggests both a sense of comfort and unease. Shirley's style is characterised by deliberately crude execution and bold colours, and technical sophistication is intentionally avoided in favour of raw expression.
“Everything is Good” continues Shrigley's acclaimed public sculpture “Really Good,” a monumental piece featuring his 'thumbs up' motif on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, London. The seemingly simple message carries more profound implications about positivity and modern anxiety.
