The present work is from a series of pochoir prints created from decoupage works on paper. In his old age, Henri Matisse was unable to paint, and so he began to make paper cut-out collages. These have become some of his most renowned work. These prints feature his iconic amorphous shapes, each different from the previous. Some resemble ferns, others conjure images of coral or sea anemones. Matisse’s refined sense of colour is on display here, creating a set of harmonious and melodic images.
