This piece was part of a sought after series of colour Lithographs which depicted Francois Gillot, Picasso’s lover, and the mother of Claude and Paloma. It was based on the painting “Bust of a woman” 3/21/1949). There is much to connect the style of this work with ancient Egyptian Art which was very popular at the time - the heavy headdress and facial portrait. . Picasso had a great interest in these types of works and his art is often heavily influenced by African and Oceanic works.
