Regarded as one of the foremost pioneers of the Op Art movement, Victor Vasarely’s work utilised geometric shapes and colourful graphics to artist create compelling illusions of spatial depth. Borrowing from a range of influences - principally the Eastern European schools as they were formed by the Bauhaus, Wassily Kandinsky and Constructivism - Vasarely’s method of painting is a distinct product of the considered, intellectual art that defined so much of the 20th century’s creative output. His works are presently held in the collections of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.
