British contemporary artist Dean Fox uses traditional draughtsmanship in his oil paintings, although straying with the addition of abstract elements. On such practice, Fox says that “coming from being a trained draughtsman [he] likes to include form in [his] works and compliment objectivity with abstraction... nature embodies both these dualities and to be only one particular way in expressing yourself seems limited.” Such duality is vivid in this work, where the muted colour palatte and classical subject is broken up and recontextualized with the thick overlay of abstract brushstrokes.
